The earliest teachings of the historical Buddha emphasize both the precision of mindfulness and intuition of awareness.  The teachings on the brahmaviharas (the “limitless” or “immeasurable” qualities) stress an expansive commitment to the well-being of others as the basis for ethical conduct.  This introductory class will examine these teachings in both theory and practice..  The four-hour program will include guided meditation practice, contemplative exercises, a study period and discussion.  There will be a communal lunch break and opportunity for outdoor time.

"May all sentient beings enjoy happiness and the root of happiness.
May they be free from suffering and the root of suffering.
May they not be separated from the great happiness devoid of suffering.
May they dwell in the great equanimity that is free from passion, aggression and preference."

Prerequisites: None.  Please bring a lunch.  Study materials will be provided.

Cost: $50, or pay what you can.
