30’s & Under Social Meditation Group

with Bradley Materick, Katie Powell and Dan Quigley

NOTE:  During the current COVID-19 outbreak, we will be hosting our meetings online via Zoom rather than meeting in person at the Shambhala Center.  We may schedule our Zoom meetings on different days of the week (not necessarily on Wednesday nights as usual), depending on the availability of our facilitators and participants.  The dates and times of our Zoom meetings, as well as information on how to join the meetings, will be announced on our email list and our Facebook page, which you can join by clicking the links at the bottom of this page.  Or you can email Bradley ([email protected]) for information on how to participate in our Zoom meetings.  We’re doing whatever we can to stay connected and support each other during this time of social isolation, so please join us!

This is a weekly group for young adults in their 20’s and 30’s who are interested in exploring the practice of meditation and how it relates to our everyday lives.  The format of our meetings is based on a powerful practice called Social Meditation.  Social Meditation offers guidelines and inspiration to extend our individual meditation into a social setting.  While individual meditation provides the opportunity to simply and non-judgmentally allow ourselves to feel and be present with our moment-to-moment experience of being human, the practice of Social Meditation nurtures a safe social space in which we can genuinely share our feelings and experience with a group of our peers, as well as listening deeply to others as they express their own feelings and experience.  Together we practice communicating with bravery and vulnerability—which are equivalent in the view of Social Meditation—so that we can bring these qualities into our daily lives.

Although most participants are in their 20’s and 30’s, older and younger participants are also welcome.  If you feel that this group can be of benefit to you, then please join us regardless of age!  No meditation experience is necessary, and there is no cost for participating.

We meet every Wednesday evening, and the following is a typical schedule for our meetings…

7:00 PM   Tea, Snacks & Conversation

7:15 PM   30 Minutes of Group Meditation (Meditation Instruction offered every other week)

If you are new to meditation, have questions, or would like to refresh your practice, one of our facilitators is a trained Meditation Instructor who can offer instruction during this time.  Instruction is available approximately every other week.

7:45 PM   Social Meditation

We use a variety of themes and activities as a basis for our practice of Social Meditation.

9:00 PM   End of Meeting

If you have questions about this group, please contact Bradley Materick ([email protected]), Katie Powell ([email protected]), or Dan Quigley ([email protected]).
