Clarifying confusion is at the heart of the 4 Foundations of Mindfulness training.  Our basic situation is that we are involved in a continual struggle to survive and to maintain our self-image.  We are continually trying to grasp onto some fixed image of ourselves (ego).  And then we have to defend that particular fixed conception.  So there is confusion, friction, stress and conflicts of all kinds.  From the Buddhist point of view, the development of true spirituality is cutting through this habit of clinging onto our confusion and getting beyond what is known as ego.  The point of this training is to explore a path of less unnecessary strain and struggle.
